I've compiled this list of free flight planners to help you cheat the system and plan your next flight for free! Most are accurate, some are not, but all are either free or have a trial period. With this list, you'll be able to plot out every detail of your next flight for FREE, which means more money in your pocket. What's the point of an accurate flight planning software if you don't have the money to purchase it? These are all free alternatives for professional flight planners. I have personally downloaded, installed, and used every single one on this list. They are all 100% legal. While they are free alternatives, you still have to have your instrument rating to use them legally. Hidden Computer Flight Planner This is a completely free flight planner developed by John Stelmach at Stelmach Systems, Inc.. It's open source so you can download it for Windows or Macs, or just play around with it online through WebGlide. It's extremely accurate and requires a professional license or instrument rating to use. ProPlanner X This program is great and easy to use. It doesn't have as many features as the big boys, but it's only $39 for a regular PC and $69 for Mac. A free trial is available online so you can see if it's right for you before purchasing. It requires a professional license or instrument rating to use. Flight Connect X (Formerly ProVFR) The Flight Connect X flight planner is awesome! It's by far my favorite flight planner on this list because of its awesome flight planning features and awesome waypoint management features. Let's face it, you can't plan a flight in Google Maps. This program allows you to plan your flight and prepare for IFR challenges ahead of time instead of navigating around them. It's also highly accurate and requires a professional license or instrument rating to use. FMS Planner Plus (Formerly FlyMate) This is another great flight planner and it happens to be free! It's easy to use and the maps look great. Since it's free, features leave much to be desired, but despite that fact, it does everything I need it to do for IFR enroute planning. It requires a professional license or instrument rating to use. Airmap X (Formerly SkyDemon) This flight planner is great, but it's even better as a terrain and airport database for your Garmin 430/530 device. I don't use it as a flight planning tool because for that I prefer the Flight Connect series, but it's still an awesome tool to have in your arsenal. A free version is available with the option to upgrade to the Pro version for $35. This program requires a professional license or instrument rating to use. eccc085e13
